Class: 2017 Age: 28 Company: Hovarth Concrete Construction
Hovarth started his business in 2008 when he was 19 years old, after working with his father’s concrete company during high school. He started by performing only a couple of jobs per year and is now performing about 40 jobs per year.
Mentorship: I started doing concrete when I was 16 years old working for my stepdad, George “Tag” Hall. He and his right-hand man, Ken Phillips, taught me everything I know about concrete. These two men equipped me with not only the knowledge of the business, but countless valuable life lessons along the way.
Professional accomplishments: I had to start my business from nothing except a love for concrete work and a few concrete tools. You could see the reservations at hiring someone my age, but once I built up my reputation it was like the floodgates opened up. In just a few short years, we went from nothing to having a concrete business that is quite successful.
Extracurricular: Wounded Warrior home projects, Random Acts of Christmas Kindness, support of our local church and missionary efforts, support of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Favorite movie: “Hacksaw Ridge.” Not only was the man a hero by saving so many lives, but he also had such a strong sense of what was right and he stuck by that, no matter the cost. Even when faced with the unthinkable, he never wavered from his values and that is truly admirable.
