A Lincoln Park man died in a multi-truck crash on Interstate 275 near Ann Arbor on Friday afternoon.

The 59-year-old man was driving a cement truck when he couldn’t stop in time and struck the rear of a box truck on northbound I-275 near Ann Arbor and Plymouth Township around 3:10 p.m., the Michigan State Police Second District post announced on X.

Officials did not name the man in the X post.

The initial crash forced the box truck into a semi-truck ahead, according to MSP. The crash caused the trucks to spill concrete, tar and diesel fuel across all lanes of I-275 and forced officials to close the freeway until 12:05 a.m. on Saturday.

Fire department crews removed the Lincoln Park man from his truck and took him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured in the crash, according to MSP.

Michigan State Police reported 21 people died and 121 were seriously injured on state roads between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.

The total number of deaths and serious injuries in 2024 through Oct. 8 are still fewer compared to the totals at this time last year, according to MSP.
