Terex Utilities and Mack Trucks have partnered to field an electric bucket truck. Terex installed its Optima HR55 aerial device powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec on the Mack MD7 Electric chassis.
The truck has up to 1.5-times enhanced range capabilities compared to other Class 6/7 medium duty electric chassis bucket trucks, with double the payload capacity on the rear axle, according to Terex. The aerial device operates independent of the chassis, which helps to ease range anxiety and allows utility crews to operate the boom and outriggers for a normal workday without taking away charge from the chassis.

The all-electric truck is also equipped with the 3rd Eye digital platform, which seamlessly integrates advanced camera systems and AI. With up to six HD cameras displayed on a 7-inch in-cab monitor, the system provides a complete, real-time view of the vehicle’s surroundings, significantly reducing blind spots when reversing, changing lanes, or operating in tight or high-traffic areas.
The system is wirelessly connected to the cloud, continuously capturing and storing critical operational data and video, providing fleet managers real-time visibility into driver performance, chassis and body activity, and equipment status, said Eric Monsen, VP of sales and marketing for Environmental Solutions Group, in a statement. “These comprehensive insights not only improve safety and reduce liability but also create a detailed event record and help identify coachable opportunities to reinforce safe driving behaviors,” Monsen said.
