Oct. 23—LONDON — A Friday morning traffic accident has resulted in the death of a toddler.
At approximately 7:50 a.m. that morning, Kentucky State Police's London Post 11 was notified of the two-vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Ky. 192 and Boggs Road in London.
According to a KSP press release, the preliminary investigation indicated that a Christopher E. Russell, 29, of London, was driving a tan 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe and failed to yield the right-of-way—striking a white 2006 Volvo dump truck operated by Merle V. Gumm, 55, of Corbin.
Both vehicles traveled down the roadway before coming to a concrete bridge railing and falling into a small creek.
According to KSP, Russell and a juvenile passenger were trapped until crews were able to get them out. The pair was then flown out by Air Evac and PHI to the University of Kentucky Hospital with severe injuries.
According to WKYT, 3-year-old Ezekiel Russell succumbed to his injuries Sunday at Kentucky Children's Hospital and pronounced by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 11 Trp. Logon Mallory. He was assisted by Post 11 personnel, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Laurel County Fire Department, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Air Evac, PHI Evac and the Fayette County Coroner's Office.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Russell family at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-chriss-family-after-tragic-accident.
