One dead after trailered backhoe hits bridge

Backhoe loader fell on the vehicle

A driver was killed and a passenger injured when a backhoe loader fell on their vehicle. According to local news reports, law enforcement officials say the backhoe was being transported on a trailer when it hit a bridge in Oro Grande, California.

The car was partially crushed and continued down the road before crashing into a tree. The passenger was airlifted to a local hospital, and the driver, 66-year-old Alan Todd, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports cited a California Highway Patrol report that said a 2023 Peterbilt was transporting the backhoe loader on a 2008 Trail King low boy trailer.
