A stainless steel dump body from Switch-N-Go is aimed at municipal customers, according to Deist Industries, maker of the hoist-and-interchangeable-body system.
Government fleets have embraced stainless steel dumps to transport and spread pavement deicers in winter, a practice that Switch-N-Go couldn’t serve because all its bodies have previously been made of carbon steel. Since 2002, Deist has offered the product, which uses a hoist-and-cable mechanism to drop and pick up a range of bodies, turning a single truck chassis into a multiuse vehicle. The company offers steel dump, dumpster, equipment platform, storage, and chipper bodies for use with the system, and custom-built bodies are available. A Switch-N-Go system’s list price is $14,000 to $15,000, which includes an electrically driven lift mechanism, one body, fenders for the truck’s rear wheels, and a rear light kit, the company says.
