The new Terramac RT14R is the first of the company’s crawler carrier models to feature an upper frame that rotates 360 degrees, allowing the operator “to off-load material in an efficient, precise, and safe manner,” says the company.
According to Terramac, the RT14R can carry and dump up to 28,000 pounds of material at any position, even while being driven. This feature, says the company, allows the new carrier to unload material faster than a straight-frame model, because the tracks need not be counter-rotated to position the unit—thus minimizing ground disturbance and restoration, as well as track wear. The rotating frame also significantly reduces the necessity to drive the machine in reverse, says Terramac, a plus for safety.
The 40,000-pound RT14R uses a Cummins QSL9.0 engine, rated at 320 horsepower and complying with Tier 4-Final emissions standards without a diesel particulate filter. The machine uses a hydrostatic drive system to power its rubber-track undercarriage, which has four oscillating bogie assemblies (per side) secured to a massive beam that serves as the track frame. Each bogie assembly has four larger steel rollers that straddle a double row of guide lugs to stabilize the track. Ground pressure exerted by the RT14R when fully loaded is 7.9 psi.
The new carriers is equipped with ROPS and FOPS systems and features wide access doors, windows on all sides, and larger mirrors for enhanced visibility. A multifunction joystick has integrated dump controls, and the touch-screen Parker IQAN-MD4 control system, says Terramac, “allows for full graphical, diagnostic, and controller area network (CAN J-1939) gateway capability.” A tilt hood in the engine enclosure provides access to the engine, and an enclosure at the rear of the cab facilitates routine fluid and maintenance checks.
The Terramac crawler-carrier range also includes the 230-horsepower RT9 and the 280-horsepower RT14, the non-rotating counterpart model to the new RT14R. Terramac has designed these units to accept all manner of rear-mounted equipment in lieu of a dump body, including drill rigs, cranes, digger derricks, water tanks, fuel tanks, hydro-seeder systems, large compressors, vacuum-excavator systems, and personnel carriers.
Terramac continues to expand its distribution network, which presently includes 10 dealers with 84 locations and 150 sales people.
