Top 100: Four-Cycle Tamper Hits Hard

Sept. 28, 2010

Model BT65/4 is Bomag's first vibratory tamper to use a four-stroke-cycle engine. Newly designed to accommodate its 3.3-hp Honda GX100 engine, the 150-pound tamper, says Bomag, retains the high stroke, high impact force (3,485 pounds) and balance of two-cycle tampers. But added benefits include quieter operation; cleaner exhaust; use of unmixed fuel; and the ability to be transported horizontally without concern for flooding the cylinder, muffler, carburetor or air filter with oil. Estimated price: $3,699.
