Caterpillar to Close Kansas Plant

The move will affect some 400 jobs.

Caterpillar has notified employees at its Wamego, Kansas, work tools plant that they'll be out of a job in mid-2025.

“To better utilize capacity and ensure alignment with the company’s long-term strategy, Caterpillar Inc. today notified its workforce at its Wamego, Kansas, facility that it will close in mid- 2025,” a Caterpillar corporate spokesperson said in a statement picked up by The Mercury in Manhattan, Kansas. “This facility manufactures work tools and attachments. The company will support employees during this transition.”

The move affects some 400 employees. Caterpillar beat expected earnings expectations in Q1 of 2024.
