Students Learn Operating Skills in ‘The Sandbox’

High school students enrolled in civil construction pathway (CCP) in Indiana are learning equipment operation in the program’s Sandbox, an outdoor classroom created to bring students and industry partners together.

CCP was designed by the Indiana Department of Transportation and industry organizations, and heavy equipment operation is one of the skills it addresses. Since the program’s launch in 2019, students have operated skid steer loaders, excavators, hydraulic directional drilling, and hydro excavation. Students can acquire skid steer and mini-excavator certifications.
