JCB has launched the 504-13 Loadall subcompact telescopic handler in response to growing demand in North America for telehandlers in the sub-6,000-pound category.

The 504-13 becomes the smallest telehandler in the company’s North American line, aimed at maintenance applications, job-site cleanup, and material handling in confined worksites.

The telehandler has a 4,000-pound lift capacity and a maximum lift height of 13 feet 3 inches.

It builds on the design and capability characteristics of the company’s earlier 520-40 Loadall, with the addition of a 39-horsepower Perkins Tier 4-F-compliant diesel engine. The engine produces 120 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,800 rpm.

The unit features four equal-sized wheels and permanent 4-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability, as well as a low boom profile for visibility and safety, the company says. It also has a two-speed hydrostatic transmission.

Directional shuttle changes are possible via the shuttle lever on the steering column or the joystick-mounted steering switch. A limited-slip differential is available to maximize traction on slippery surfaces by transferring drive from the spinning wheel to the stationary wheel.

The controls are single-lever electro servo controls with proportional auxiliaries.

A compact tool carrier or skid steer coupler can accommodate a wide array of attachments, including a general purpose shovel with toeplate, industrial or floating forks, power grab, sweeper/collector, and more.

The 504-13 Loadall also has the company’s U-pressed steel boom with fewer welds and stress points. In addition, the machine’s bodywork is all steel. Hose burst check valves are designed to prevent the rams from collapse in the event of a hose failure.

In the cab, glass is tinted all around and the windshield and roof are laminated. The cab also features a wide access door. GPS tracking via JCB LiveLink telematics provides real-time location data, including the ability to program geofencing alerts to deter unauthorized use or theft.

Machine height is 6 feet 6 inches and width is 5 feet 1 inch.

The subcompact unit joins 15 other JCB Loadall telehandler models offered in North America for the construction and rental industries—nine tool carriers and seven lift-and-place machines. The company says it will add an additional compact model later this year.

Since 1977, JCB has sold more than more than 250,000 telehandlers worldwide.
