The 304.5E2 XTC mini excavator is the first model in Caterpillar’s Xtra Tool Carrier (XTC) lineup. The new model provides the same level of digging and lifting performance as its conventional 304E CR counterpart, says Caterpillar, but adds a skid-steer type coupler attached to a sub-frame mounted beneath the lower frame. The coupler interface allows the use of such attachments as a multipurpose bucket, forks, broom, tiller, roller, blade, trencher, and rake.
A switch on the right hand console allows the right joystick to control boom and bucket functions for the front linkage in the machine’s digging mode, and lift and tilt functions for the coupler in the attachment mode. The 304.5E2 XTC’s expanded capabilities, says the company, can reduce the number of machines required on site and simplifies transport logistics.
The 304.5E2 XTC includes all the standard features of the E2 model lineup, including automatic two-speed travel, pilot controls, high-degree bucket rotation, and blade float. The ROPS-certified operator station features the Cat interlock system, and the COMPASS monitor includes a pass-code-protected security system, auxiliary-flow-adjustment capability, and a site reference system. A rearview camera is available.
To further increase versatility, an available mechanical or hydraulic quick coupler for the excavator front linkage (mounted to the stick) accommodates work tools such as an auger and hydraulic hammer. A thumb-ready stick is standard.
