July 26, 2021

Rescue crews in Nebraska saved a construction worker who was buried alive in a trench. After hours of effort, rescue crews were able to dig the man out.

According to KTIV, the worker was buried under thousands of pounds of dirt at a construction site in North Omaha. According to Fire Chief Nolan Paulsen, workers were joining two round culvert pipes together with a band. The man then became trapped in the dirt and caught between the two pipes.

According to Paulsen, the rescue team stabilized the path to the victim and the banks of the trench. After two hours of digging, the man was pulled out alive. The worker should survive despite being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
