The asphalt pavers fit in the company’s lineup between the P4410B and 7000B series models.
The 5000B series pavers use 173-horsepower Volvo D6 Tier 4-F engine, which is the same engine used in its L60H through L90H wheel loaders. Engine speed, torque, and fuel consumption are optimized for fuel efficiency, averaging 3.7 gallons per hour for the 5110B and 3.3 gallons per hour for the 5170B.
The large-capacity hopper has rolled wings, made of 1-inch steel, that help prevent material build-up and cut cleaning time. Sonic sensors regulate asphalt flow and delivery. The P5170B also has the option of front wheel assist for added traction and grade-ability.
The UltiMat160 screed features extensions that can adjust paving width hydraulically from 8 to 16 feet. The screed’s front-mounted extension supports head-of-material control in the auger channel, further ensuring a quality finish. Optional bolt-on extensions allow for paving up to 18 feet and can be added or removed quickly, thanks to Volvo’s quick coupling system.
The pavers have ground-level access to common service areas, filters, hydraulic test ports, and fuel/DEF tanks. Greaseless bearings in the auger and conveyor and wear parts in the hopper that are easy to access and replace also make servicing these machines easy.
