Worker was buried up to his chest.

A worker died after a portion of trench collapsed on him, according to the Sanilac East Fire Authority in Port Sanilac, Michigan.

In a press release, the agency described the trench as 8 feet deep with an excavator on one side of the trench and another at the end of the trench. No mention was made of shoring.

The victim was under a “chunk of dirt” that had fallen with his chest and face visible. “No signs of life were observed,” according to the press release.

The Fire Authority determined that the trench was unstable and called in the Huron County Tech Rescue and Macomb County Technical Rescue Team to remove the victim.
