Worker Dies After Being Struck by Car in Connecticut

A construction worker died Wednesday after being hit by a car in Hartford, Conn. on a site in the area of West Boulevard at South Whitney Street.

According to a report from Fox61.com, police initially determined the car was headed west on West Boulevard at a high speed when it went through a construction site staffed by a private contractor that had a trench in the roadway and hit a worker.

The worker, identified Jose Diaz-Nieves, 54, of East Hartford, died at the scene, according to the report.

The car also hit other equipment and a dump truck at the scene, authories said.

The driver of the car, identified as Tommy Nguyen, 25, of Hartford, was detained and arrested by police, and two other people inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hartford Police Department’s Crime Scene Division responded to the scene and is conducting an ongoing investigation.
