Worker run over by excavator, killed

Miscommunication on job site

A worker was run over by an excavator in Sandusky County, Ohio, on July 19. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to news reports citing law enforcement.

James Hilburn, 60, was employed by Wenger Construction & Excavating, which was working a residential site prep project.

The sheriff’s report says the operator told deputies that he had asked if it was clear and was told it was safe to back up the machine.
