Crane flipped out of building

A trial underway in New York City could result in two construction supervisors serving prison time, according to news reports.

The supervisors, according to prosecutors cited in the article, allowed an unlicensed and untrained operator to run a Jekko mini crane inside the building under construction without a city permit for its use. While lifting a heavy glass panel, the crane flipped out of the building. The boom jackknifed onto the floor below and hit two workers, Jorge Delgado and Christopher Jackson, who had been trying to guide the panel into place. Delgado was hit by the boom and suffered spinal injuries; Jackson was pulled out of the building and landed in the street, according to the report.

Video released by the Manhattan DA’s office shows the accident.

The two supervisors—Timothy Briaco and Terrence Edwards—work for Western Specialty Contractors, a subcontractor on the project, according to the report.
