Newmont Corp. said it has begun using its first battery-electric large mining truck at the Cripple Creek and Victor Mine in Teller County, Colorado as part of the company’s strategic alliance with Caterpillar Inc.
The haul truck, which is called the Early Learner Cat 793 XE, will be used in the open-pit mining and heap leach operations at Cripple Creek.
“The arrival of the Early Learner Cat 793 XE underscores our ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our business,” Newmont’s chief operating officer, Natascha Viljoen, said in the Oct. 29 announcement.
