South Carolina DOT Makes Safety Changes

March 19, 2021

Two years ago, two South Carolina Department of Transportation workers were killed when a heavy truck failed to slow for traffic stopped at a construction site.

This month, the head of the SCDOT told a state Senate committee that the department has moved to increase safety for construction workers.

According to a report by WMBF, SCDOT Secretary Christy Hall told the committee that the department has “revamped” its light package and is in the process of upgrading employee uniforms for increased visibility to drivers. The state General Assembly has also passed work zone legislation.

Cecil Morgan and David Sibbick were killed in July 2019 while working on Highway 501 in Horry County.
