The new Midland Machinery SPF-8 road widener is designed to be transported “without permits day, night, or weekends,” says the company. The new machine’s hopper folds inward to provide an overall 98.5-inch transport width. Using a 74-horsepower John Deere engine, the SPF-8 can push a fully loaded, 18-wheel, material-transport truck, says Midland, and is capable of spreading material from 1 to 8 feet in width from its 3-yard hopper by means of a movable, variable-speed conveyor capable of delivering 500 tons per hour. The new road widener also transforms from right- to left-hand discharge to accommodate the job.
