Caterpillar AP600F/AP655F Asphalt Pavers

March 23, 2015

The Cat AP600F (wheeled) and AP655F (rubber tracked) asphalt pavers are available with screed-platform configurations that include vibratory only or vibratory/tamping. The SE50 V screed has a maximum paving range of 21.3 feet, the SE50 VT 26.3 feet, and the SE60 V 25 feet.

Powering the new pavers is the 173-horsepower Cat C4.4 ACERT engine, meeting Tier 4-Final emissions standards and featuring an Eco operating mode. The control automatically adjusts engine speed at high loads or when additional cooling is required; normal engine speed is approximately 1,350 rpm.

An integral generator for heating the screed is directly connected to the engine and brings the screed to proper temperature in approximately 15 minutes, says Caterpillar, and the heating system automatically compensates for sensor failure to allow uninterrupted paving. Controls for new technology features are accessed through a touch-screen display, says the company, and frequently used functions are controlled by switches.

A new single-switch auto-fill feeder system simplifies setup, says Caterpillar, and ratio control for the conveyors can be controlled from the screed. An available pendant control enables the screed operator to stand beside the machine. Also, the tractor operator can adjust mix height and make various screed adjustments. Cat Grade Control now can be operated from the tractor consoles if desired.
