A Nevada Department of Transportation maintenance worker was shot multiple times and injured by a passing motorist while working to resurface State Route 278. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the worker was flown from the scene to an area hospital where he was in stable condition Thursday.
Following the shooting, a highway patrol trooper traveling through the area provided medical aid and then traveled southbound in an attempt to locate the shooter vehicle. Additional troopers eventually located the vehicle 35 miles north of the work site. The vehicle was successfully disabled with a tire deflation device.
News reports say the suspect began firing on officers and is dead. Further details are unavailable.
