Miller Electric ArcReach Remote-Control Technology Expands to Three More Machines
Miller recently expanded its ArcReach remote-control technology to three additional machines used for portable welding applications in such markets as construction, fabrication and shipbuilding. The new machines include the XMT 350 CC/CV, XMT 450 CC/CV, and Dimension 650 multi-process welding-power sources.
ArcReach, says Miller, allows welding operators to adjust and set voltage at the point of use—the weld joint—without the use of control cords, thus minimizing downtime and improving safety by reducing exposure to tripping hazards and lessening operator fatigue associated with walking to and from the power source. According to the company, the technology also helps eliminate the need to settle for less-than-optimal welding parameters, consequently improving weld quality and increasing productivity by providing for more time for actually welding.
In addition to gaining point-of-use control, says Miller, the new machines also include an Auto-Bind feature as a component of the ArcReach technology. Auto-Bind is designed to automatically establish exclusive communication between the power source and wire feeder, using the existing weld cables when the system powers up. The trigger need not be pulled to establish the connection. The new machines automatically select the correct welding process, based on polarity, and indicate that polarity on the feeder, making setup easier for welding operators, says the company.
Miller is also offering a new ArcReach Stick/TIG Remote equipped with remote-control technology compatible with all three machines. The new remote capability allows welding operators to set the amperage for stick and TIG welding at the weld joint, again eliminating unnecessary trips to the power source to adjust welding parameters. The remote also includes the Auto-Bind feature and includes settings for welding with American Welding Society (AWS) EXX10 and EXX18 series stick electrodes, as well as offering the ability to air-carbon arc gouge.
The XMT 350 CC/CV and XMT 450 CC/CV multi-process welding power sources are capable of MIG, stick, TIG, and flux-cored welding, along with air-carbon arc cutting and gouging. The new models also provide the flexibility of a 14-pin connection for spool guns, feeders and remote controls, says Miller. The Dimension 650 power source offers the same multi-process capabilities, says the company, with the control needed to weld thin materials and the capacity to handle 3/8-inch carbon arc gouging applications.
