Komatsu GD655-6 Motor Grader Meets T4-F with SCR

March 27, 2015

The GD655-6 motor grader is a 218-horsepower unit with closed-center, load-sensing hydraulics. A variable-displacement pump regulates flow and pressure, and direct-acting control valves provide a predictable system response.

With a wheelbase of 21 feet 4 inches, the grader has a turning radius of 24 feet 3 inches.

The Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 diesel is certified Tier 4-Final using SCR technology. Power mode reduces fuel burn by 5 percent, and economy cuts it by 15 percent compared to the Dash 5 version, the company says.

The dual-mode transmission has a powershift transmission, with 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds, coupled to the engine by both a torque converter and a direct-drive lock-up clutch. Direct-drive delivers high travel speed and lower fuel use; the torque converter delivers increased traction and fine control at lower speeds. The transmission allows on-the-go, full power shifting as well as inching capabilities.

Large, hinged, lockable doors are standard and provide access to all daily service check points.  The tandem oil check port is located at the end of the tandem. The battery box and master disconnect switch have been relocated to prevent dust accumulation inside the box.

The grader has ground-level fuel and DEF access, and the DEF tank features an external sight gauge.
