Kohler Engines has expanded use of its electronic, closed-loop fuel injection (EFI) technology with the introduction of the Confidant EFI, Command PRO EFI CH440 and Command PRO EFI 999-cc engines. According to the company, EFI technology provides enhanced fuel efficiency, greater reliability and easier starting in a wide variety of conditions. The new models, says the company, are anticipated to deliver an estimated 25 percent in fuel savings, compared with Kohler carbureted engines under comparable load conditions. The closed-loop system uses an oxygen sensor in the muffler to continuously monitor the air/fuel mixture and triggers adjustments to the amount of fuel injected into the system to keep the mixture at an optimum level. The Confidant EFI line includes four engines ranging between 20 and 27 horsepower. The 14-horsepower CH440 EFI engine features Kohler’s Quad-Clean four-stage cyclonic air cleaner, and the Command PRO EFI 999cc delivers up to 38 horsepower and 55.3 lb-ft of torque.
