States Want Green Dollars Transferred to Infrastructure: Report

March 12, 2025
Roll Call says rather than eliminate spending on green initiatives, move funding to "traditional" infrastructure.

State officials are asking that “green” funding be reassigned to other infrastructure uses rather than have those funds cut, according to a report in Roll Call.

So-called green funding was included in the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Trump Administration is signaling a pullback of those funds.

Sam Graves, R-Mo., House Transportation and Infrastructure chairman, told Roll Call that traditional infrastructure spending such as “laying asphalt, pouring concrete, building bridges and building roads” should take precedent. The report indicates that Republicans may be willing to accommodate such a transition of spending.

Jim Tymon, executive director of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials told the publication that the IIJA should be used to establish a “baseline” for future spending, but seemed to be willing to accommodate changes that align “with the administration’s priorities.”
