The Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) has named Edward Allocco of Sarasota County Fleet Services as the recipient of the 2024 Technician of the Year Award.
Allocco exemplifies the best of the heavy equipment profession, demonstrating excellence in technical skill, safety, innovation, and mentorship.
Eddie Allocco, who joined Sarasota County Fleet Services in 2021, quickly became a vital member of the team. With over 30 years of experience as a Master ASE automotive and truck technician, Eddie transitioned seamlessly into the Fire/EMS division, achieving Master Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) status. He recently reached the esteemed ASE World Class Technician level, a title held by only 2,000 technicians since 1986.
Michael Naletko, Fleet Operations Manager for Sarasota County, praised Eddie’s contributions, saying, "Eddie's calm demeanor, extensive knowledge, and eagerness to mentor others have been transformative for our team. His attention to detail, especially regarding safety, and his innovative diagnostic techniques have made him a go-to technician in our organization."
Eddie’s professional development is extensive, including certifications in advanced diagnostics and hybrid technology, along with his recent associate degree in business administration. His dedication to safety is unmatched, serving as the safety representative for the Fire/EMS shop, where he performs regular safety checks and trains new technicians on proper safety protocols.
In addition to his technical prowess, Eddie is a passionate advocate for the technician profession. He mentors less experienced technicians and volunteers at the local technical institute to inspire the next generation of fleet professionals. Eddie also recently participated in a NAFA webinar, addressing the technician shortage and emphasizing the importance of vocational education.
The AEMP Technician of the Year Award, sponsored by John Deere, is presented annually to recognize outstanding technicians who not only excel in their roles but also promote the profession within their communities.
