Epiroc has added two new Concrete Buster models, CB 5500 and CB 7500, designed for heavier
carriers in the 55- to 94-ton (50 to 85 metric tonnes) weight class. The comparatively light
weights of the new tools, says Epiroc, make them effective choices for use with high-reach or
long-front carriers. The new models, says the company, are suited to applications involving
highly abrasive material and in applications in which noise is of concern, allowing use in
residential areas where hydraulic breakers are not permitted. The new models are designed with
wide jaw openings and high cracking forces, says Epiroc, allowing demolition of thick
foundation walls, girders, and heavy concrete at extreme heights.
The new CB Concrete Busters use two large hydraulic cylinders, designed to deliver constant
continuous closing forces, and the cylinders are protected by piston-rod guards. An integrated
speed valve provides faster working cycles, and the two independently moving jaws are designed
to eliminate displacement forces and lowering stress levels. Cutting blades are both replaceable
and reversible.
CB Concrete Busters feature 360-degree continuous hydraulic rotation, facilitating handling and
positioning. If the cutter grips material at an oblique angle, says Epiroc, a built-in pressure relief
valve allows a “self-acting movement” that brings the cutter jaw into an optimum position,
protecting both the carrier and the cutter from potentially damaging reaction forces.
The new CB 5500 and CB 7500 models provide cracking forces of 165 tons (150 metric tonnes)
and 209 tons (190 tonnes), respectively. Jaw openings for the two models are 63 inches and 71
inches. The complete CB range includes six models with service weights from 1,590 pounds to
16,300 pounds for carriers weighing from 2.2 to 94 tons.
