According to Caterpillar, the new Cat 323F L ES (Extreme Service) hydraulic excavator is a specially designed machine with reinforced structures and massive counterweight to take on the most severe applications. The machine delivers 20 percent more over-the-side lift capacity than its conventional 20-ton counterpart and has the stability, says Caterpillar, to handle the largest of work tools, such as thumbs and grapples. The new model features a heavy-duty boom and extreme-service stick that use high-strength-steel, box-section construction with internal baffles, and the upper frame, carbody (lower frame), and track roller frames reflect a heavy-duty design. With an operating weight of 56,500 pounds, the 323F L ES uses a 156-horsepower Cat 7.1 engine and digs to 22 feet 1 inch.
