Eddie Garcia, a 28-year construction veteran, became trapped by a toppled crane while working on a job at the Martin Marietta quarry in Johnston County on July 15. According to a report by ABC KTen, Garcia was pinned under the machine for nearly four hours.
When first responders failed to free Garcia from the wreckage Dr. Lindsay DaVault, a surgeon at AllianceHealth Durant was asked to assist. When she arrived at the scene, she determined the best course of action was to perform a double amputation at the accident site.
Garcia was then flown to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He spend a month a OU Medical, undergoing several surgeries. On August 13, he was transported to a rehab center in Dallas.
Garcia says he plans on getting back to work after being fitting for prosthesis in the coming months.
