Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct project will move into the “mop-up” stage by the end of September and is now more than 80 percent complete, according to ENR. WSDOT expects the bulk of demolition to move away from the waterfront by the end of summer.
As of now, over two-thirds of the viaduct has come down and been cleared. Work started near the middle of the viaduct, so crews have moved north and south as they continue working.
The first phase included crews pouring in processed concrete rubble from demolished pieces of the viaduct from vents on the street above.
According to the article, the viaduct’s tunnel, no longer needed after renovations, is getting filled to half its height with crushed concrete rubble from the viaduct.
