The Arizona Department of Transportation is one of the first state agencies to begin awarding contracts as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The competition for the $350 million in Arizona highway stimulus funds is shaping up to be a bit heated, given the mood at the bid opening April 24 in the ADOT auditorium.
About $85 million worth of stimulus-funded projects have been advertised. The bids that opened April 10 and April 24 are likely to be considered when the State Transportation Board convenes May 15. Here’s a look at those projects and the lowest bidders:
• U.S. 160 pavement preservation through the town of Kayenta on the Navajo Nation. Low bid: Fann Contracting Inc., Prescott, $8.1 million
• State Route 87 shoulder widening north of Payson. Low bid: Bison Contracting Co., Phoenix, $3.7 million
• U.S. 89 pavement preservation north of Flagstaff. Low bid: Meadow Valley Contractors Inc., Phoenix, $3.65 million
• U.S. 160 pavement preservation at the junction of State Route 264 in Tuba City. Low bid: Granite Construction Co., Tucson, $2.95 million
• U.S. 60 pavement preservation in Gila County northeast of Globe. Low bid: Southwest Asphalt Paving, Tempe, $2.78 million
• Multiuse path from Rio Vista Community Park under Loop 101 to 83rd Avenue bridge in Peoria. Low bid: D&O Contractors Inc., Glendale, $459,000
• Improvements to north side of McDowell Road near 121st Avenue in Avondale. Low bid: Southwest Concrete Paving Co., Phoenix, $373,700
• U.S. 66 concrete median and paving in Kingman. Low bid: McCormick Construction Co., Bullhead City, $171,400.
