The Shaw Group Inc. announced in February its Environmental & Infrastructure Group has been awarded a $125 million task order that extends its existing contract to provide environmental remediation services at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Maywood, N.J., Superfund site to 2013. The task order increases Shaw’s contract to $379.5 million, an approximately $50 million increase from the capacity of the contract Shaw has held for 10 years. The extension amount will be included in the company's second quarter fiscal year 2009 backlog of unfilled orders.Shaw has worked at the Maywood site since 1999 under the Corps’ Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), a federal initiative to clean legacy sites from the early atomic energy and weapons program. The scope of the contract includes characterization, remedial design and cleanup of government-owned and commercial properties. Shaw has completed work at 19 of the properties, including excavating and disposing of more than 203,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil and treating more than 17 million gallons of excavation dewatering material. Recently, the company surpassed 1 million work hours at the site without a lost-time incident.
