Hino Trucks has updated its medium-duty models and renamed its entire vehicle lineup, the company announced during the North American Commercial Vehicle Show. Updates include new instruments and interior designs, and medium- and heavy-duty conventional-cab models will soon be available with extended and crew cabs.
Class 4 and 5 low cab-over-engine models, now called 165 and 195, become the M4 and M5, while Class 5, 6 and 7 conventional-cab 258, 268 and 338 models will become the L5, L6 and L7. They join the Class 7 and 8 heavy trucks, XL7 and XL8, that went into production earlier this year.
The 30-inch extended cab will have seating for five and the 44-inch-larger crew cab will have four full-size doors and seat six passengers, and provide the comfort of rear zone A/C and heat. The extended and crew cab variants will be added in the spring.
Hino XLs will soon get a snow plow package that includes an 18,000-pound-capacity steer axle and extended front frame for plow mounting. The XL snow plow package will be available next summer.
Starting early next year, all trucks will be titled as 2021 models, officials said. Hino, like other Japanese-based truck builders, begins its new model year in January of the previous calendar year. Hino conventionals are built in West Virginia while low cabovers come from Japan.
