Herrenknecht is noted for its large drills, which range up to 1,323,000 pounds of thrust/pullback force and up to 147,500 lb.-ft. of rotational toque for underground construction. The company uses the term “compact,” however, to describe its new HK80CK rig— which has 180,000 pounds of thrust/pullback force, 42,500 lb.-ft. rotational torque, and 440 horsepower—because its design eliminates the need for a remote pump and control cabin. Pipe-length options are available for accommodating smaller work sites. The Herrenknecht HK80CK directional drill also is available as a hybrid model that uses a 250kW “E-Motor’ to drive all drilling functions; a small diesel is used for on-site maneuvering.
