Volvo Penta 5L, 13L Diesel Engines
Nov. 30, 2017
The 13L TAD1381-1385VE is a six-cylinder unit with maximum output of 551 horsepower at 1,900 rpm, and the 5L TAD580-582VE is a four-cylinder unit with a maximum output of 218 horsepower at 2,200 rpm.
Both are designed to deliver maximum power and torque at low rpm, and both are compact, with hardware layout and electrical interfaces that are compatible with engines of earlier emissions legislation. The air inlet throttle, together with the uncooled EGR and the electrical exhaust pressure governor, are designed to deliver effective heat management of the engine. This enables the system to function without the need to inject fuel into the exhaust stream to raise the temperature.
