The XL 3100 V wheeled excavator, with an operating weight of approximately 40,900 pounds, has a telescoping/tilting boom and is capable of highway speeds to 60 mph and on-site maneuvering speeds to 5mph. Maximum reach at ground level is 27.25 feet, and maximum digging depth is 18.4 feet. The XL 3100 V’s engine—a 215-horsepower Tier 4-F Volvo Penta—powers both the chassis and the upper-structure’s pressure-compensated/load-sensing hydraulic system. The engine is up to 5 percent more fuel-efficient than the predecessor model. According to the manufacturer, the XL 3100 V is capable of performing conventional-excavator tasks, as well as such tasks as sloping, finishing, dredging, pavement-slab removal, and tree trimming using attachments.
