The Case concept loader unveiled at Bauma on Monday is powered by an FPT Industrial natural gas engine. It runs on compressed natural gas (CNG), delivers up to 230 horsepower, and has “diesel-like” performance, according to the company. Fuel savings can be up to 30 percent over diesel, and the engine produces 15 percent less carbon dioxide and 99 percent less particulate matter than diesel, the company says.
The engine uses stoichiometric technology, which ensures the correct chemical balance between air and methane, the company says. FPT Industrial uses proprietary control strategy, specific piston design, and multi-point injection. The highly stable spark-ignited combustion system also reduces vibration and engine noise up to 5 dB(A), the company says.
Both Case Construction Equipment and FPT are part of CNH Industrial. The natural gas methane wheel loader is named Project Tetra.
