Mar. 1—The two construction workers who were killed following a trench collapse in Catonsville have been identified by Baltimore County Police.
Police said the victims were Emerson Amestica, 24, and Wilmer Barzallo, 32. No other information has been released about the two men. Calls to a construction company on the scene at the time of the incident were not returned Saturday.
Just after 11:30 a.m. Friday, county police officers from Wilkens Precinct responded to the 500 block of Academy Road for a call titled “Rescue.”
Upon arrival, officers, along with the Baltimore County Fire Department, were informed that two subjects were trapped underneath a concrete wall that had collapsed. Both men were recovered by fire personnel and pronounced deceased on the scene.
At one point in the afternoon, the roughly two dozen firefighters on the scene stopped working and placed a tarp over the hole. Police officials spoke with workers on the scene.
One worker yelled, “No!” and kicked and punched his work truck during the attempted rescue mission. Two workers embraced and cried at the scene.
