The Gehl V420 and Mustang 4200V skid steer loaders are companion models and weigh in at 11,665 pounds and have a rated operating capacity of 4,200 pounds. Powered by a 120-horsepower (gross) Tier 4 Deutz engine developing 354 lb-ft of torque, the new models feature a vertical lift path and 143.6 inches of clearance under the bucket hinge pin. Compared with the predecessor models (V400 and 4000V), the new models have 21.7 additional horsepower and 200 pounds additional operating capacity. Standard two-speed travel provides speeds to 10.7 mph.
The cab-forward design uses a Level II falling objects protective structure (FOPS) as standard equipment, and inside the cab is a new side-folding restraint bar, LCD display that can be customized to user preferences, and upper-left and upper-right instrument panels. Large side screens and a low-profile lift-arm design contribute to enhanced visibility, and a wide-view glass door option provides expanded visibility to side areas. A top/front window is designed to provide visibility to the lift arms in higher working positions. A suspension seat is standard; air-ride is an option. The patented Hydraloc system applies the brakes when the restraint bar is raised, the operator leaves the seat, or the ignition is switched off.
Control choices include standard pilot-operated joysticks, plus pilot-operated hand/foot, mechanical T-bar, and dual hand options. The standard 32-gpm auxiliary hydraulic system features proportional control with a detent for continuous operation; a 40.8-gpm high-flow system is available. Auxiliary ports with flat-face couplers are positioned on the lift arms, and a 14-pin connector is provided for attachment use. Lift cylinders are cushioned to smooth lift-arm lowering, and the standard Hydraglide ride-control system allows the lift-arm assembly to float when the machine is transporting loads. Electronic foot and hand throttles are standard.
According to the manufacturer, the new models feature a redesigned chassis with enhanced weight distribution, as well as a self-leveling lift-arm assembly that features a single-plane design, heavy-duty timing link, upper-rear channel support, and large-diameter pins and bushings. Dual bucket cylinders and two lift-arm stop blocks are designed to evenly distribute digging forces. Designed to be tool carriers, says the manufacturer, the new models feature the standard All-Tach coupler for attachment mounting, or the available Power-A-Tach system.
Serviceability features include a large engine cover with gas-spring assist and retention, large rear door for engine servicing, swing-out hydraulic cooler (hydraulic fan is standard), no-maintenance drive chains and axle bearings, coded wiring, coolant sight gauge, and tilting operator's station for access to internal components. Available options include a sealed/pressurized cab, rearview back up camera, radio with hands-free Bluetooth, impact resistant door, 3-inch seatbelt and shoulder strap, brake release, and rotating beacon.
