Cat 272D skid steer loader and 299D compact track loader replace the C Series predecessors. High-performance XHP versions have increased horsepower and hydraulic performance, the company says. Tier 4-Interim diesels have been added, and the company also designed in improvements in lifting, digging and attachment performance. Caterpillar added features commonly seen in wheel loaders with its Intelligent Leveling system: electronic dual self level, work tool return to dig, and work tool positioner. Self level work on both raising and lowering. Return to dig automatically lowers lift arms and returns the attachment to a preset angle. Work tool positioner automatically returns the attachment to a preset angle after repositioning the machine. New dial-type hand throttle and electronic throttle pedal give the machines a “decel” features when at high idle. Net horsepower has been increased 5 to 18 percent, and flywheel torque has been boosted 13 to 27 percent across the line. Redesigned air-intake flow path takes air from the back of the machine, where it is cleaner, through the cooling package and out of the top of the engine compartment. Larger lift cylinders provide a 19-percent increase in lifting force versus the predecessors.
