A50 Volvo articulated dump truck is the company’s largest, with a payload capacity of 99,208 pounds. The 516-horsepower A50 is part of the next generation lineup of Volvo ADTs. Three models in the new series are also available: A35, A40, and A45. Three others will be introduced later in 2025, bringing the full lineup of ADTs to seven models.
The drivetrain has Terrain Memory, which identifies and remembers slippery road segments. A new Volvo-developed transmission is coupled with automatic drive, 100% differential locks, all-terrain bogie, and hydro-mechanical steering.
Volvo Dynamic Drive offers predictive gear selection that adapts to operating conditions, and a downhill speed control function relies on Volvo’s braking systems to further enhance efficiency, safety, and comfort.
Operator benefits in Volvo articulated haulers
The fully redesigned cab includes a larger floor area, new hanging pedals and steering wheel, ergonomic levers and switch layouts, and better noise reduction.
Visibility from the cab has been enhanced by a lower hood profile, reconfigured and larger window panels, additional LED lighting, and wider windshield wiper coverage. A repositioned door makes entering and exiting the cab simpler and safer. Railings on both sides and focused lighting on the stairs and platform also enhance safety.
A startup button at ground level illuminates the stairs and boots up controls. Once in the cab, the operator turns the key to fully start the machine.
Reinforced axles withstand heavier loads and higher torque then predecessor Volvo articulated haulers. For maintenance, an access ladder has been added and is stored under the hood, which can be raised or lowered by the push of a button. The entire engine compartment is illuminated, and the condenser package has moved to the right side of the cab.
What technology is on Volvo ADTs?
Two in-cab screens display essential information. New software architecture allows fleets to incorporate future upgrades.
The updated interactive Volvo Co-Pilot display offers control of functions like camera settings, climate control, and machine status. An instrument cluster positioned in front of the steering wheel provides important vehicle data at a glance.
Haul Assist with on-board weighing provides real-time payload data to prevent overloading and minimize carry back, which also reduces fuel consumption and machine wear.
Connected Map, Performance Indicator, and Site Optimization improve traffic flow, vehicle performance, and on-site logistics.
