Volvo Demolition Excavators

Two high-reach and two straight-boom models have been upgraded.

Volvo Construction Equipment has updated its lineup of demolition excavators with two straight-boom models and two high-reach models.

The EC400 Straight Boom replaces the Volvo EC380E Straight Boom, and the EC300 Straight Boom is an upgrade of the E300E Straight Boom excavator. The booms allow the demolition excavators to reach 30% farther than standard models, and a heavier counterweight provides stability during work at heights.

Fuel efficiency is 14% higher than predecessor models, and the EC400 Straight Boom has 10% more power than the machine it replaces. The updated cab has a roll over protection system and frame-mounted falling object guards. High-impact resistant glass is 12 mm thick.

The excavators have a bigger auxiliary return line for faster attachment movements, and the case drain line feeds returning oil back into the tank and not to a case drain circuit. Technology upgrades include Auto Power Boost; boom-and-arm bounce reduction; and the ability to adjust boom-down speed, and boom-swing and boom-travel priority.

Volvo High Reach Excavators

The EC400 High Reach excavator replaces the EC380EHR, and the EC500 High Reach replaces the EC480EHR.

Hydraulic lines have been optimized for demolition through the increase in size of the X1 return line, which reduces the back pressure of the attachment, and a dedicated drain line for the attachment to improve oil leak rates from the rotating motor-attachment.

The Demolition Assist tool provides visual and audible alerts on working range and stability information for demolition configurations, and an integrated front view camera aids with productivity and operator comfort.

The purpose-built cab offers visibility for high-reach demolition work. The scratch-resistant, one-piece, P5A classified, front window and the reinforced roof window are both easily cleaned with an optimized wiper system for each.

The electro-hydraulic system uses intelligent technology for accurate controllability, high productivity, and fuel economy. An attachment management system stores the settings for up to 20 different hydraulic attachments. The machine can change from an ultra-high-reach boom to a standard digging configuration for flexibility in applications.
