Caterpillar has added three new models to its compact wheel loader lineup: 910, 914, and 920, the latter replacing the 918M. New options are available on the Caterpillar wheel loaders, says Caterpillar, and certain features available only as options on former models are now standard. All the new models are available in a high-lift configuration, and the 914 and 920 are available in an aggregate-handling configuration.
The Cat C3.6 engine replaces the C4.4 in all three models. According to Caterpillar, the C3.6 has the same torque performance as the previous C4.4 and also provides a modest increase in rated gross power, increasing from 101 to 111 horsepower for the 910 and 914, and from 117 to 122 horsepower for the 920. Caterpillar estimates up to 5 percent gains in fuel efficiency with the new engine, and the C3.6 meets EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards. A new reversing-fan option can operate in an automatic mode, can be momentarily activated by the operator, or can be deactivated by the operator.
Rotary sensor kickouts are now an option for the 910 and 914 Caterpillar wheel loaders, and the new fork and bucket settings of this system, along with cylinder snubbing, are features now included in the kickout system for the 920. The 914 can now be equipped with the Cat Fusion Coupler System, which features a wedging mechanism designed to create a tight, rattle-free fit, eliminating coupler-to-attachment movement and subsequent wear, says Caterpillar. New auxiliary lines are available (from mid-lift arm down to the coupler) for all the new loader models when the three- or four-valve option is selected, allowing expanded use of attachments.
Other features include optional high-illumination LED lights for working/roading lights and under-hood-service lights. The roading lights have a resistor bank built into the body to melt snow and ice. A new rear guard is available for the 914 and 920 models, purpose-built, says Caterpillar, to protect major components and systems. In-cab USB power ports provide low-voltage power for charging cell phone and other compatible electronic devices.
Operating weights for the new Caterpillar wheel loaders are 17,822, 19,056, and 21,694 pounds, and standard bucket capacities are 1.7, 2.0, and 2.2 cubic yards, respectively.
