Michael John Love, 52, has been charged with two counts of second-degree felony manslaughter, second-degree felony aggravated assault, third-degree felony obstruction of justice, and a class-A misdemeanor of obstruction of justice, according to charging documents cited in a news report by KSL News.
Love is accused of not having the crawler dozer he was hauling properly secured on the flat bed trailer. According to the news report, police determined that the dozer weighed about 32,000 pounds and exceeded Love’s tow truck’s maximum rating by 4,300 pounds.
Investigators also said Love impeded the investigation at the scene by placing the chains from his storage beds on the tow truck bed to make it look like he had properly secured them.
Experts offer advice on how to choose a trailer and properly tie down heavy equipment when transporting.
