JCB 245XR X Series Excavator

Sept. 21, 2021

The 245XR JCB excavator is the first reduced-swing model in its X Series and fits in the 22- to 26-ton category. It is powered by a 173-horsepower JCB Ecomax 448 diesel.

Tail swing is 5 feet 8 inches, which is 40 percent shorter than the conventional JCB 220X crawler excavator. Its dipper arm measures 9 feet 10 inches. Maximum digging depth is 21 feet 9 inches with the monoboom, and maximum reach is 32 feet 1 inch. The excavator comes with 24-, 28-, or 31-inch heavy-duty track pads.

The excavator’s 3-foot wide cab has 15 percent more space than the cab on the previous JS generation. Standard is an adjustable air suspended seat with mechanical lumbar support. Updated CommandPlus switch packs sit to the right of the seat with a 7-inch multifunction display. The X-Series cab also features 11 fully adjustable air vents, with multiple airflow modes for operator preference depending on weather conditions.

The T4-F engine uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with no Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and is equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

The hydraulic system uses Kawasaki pumps and a Kayaba main control valve for precise control. The hydraulic hose diameter has been increased to deliver improved flow with less resistance, boosting performance and efficiency.

Large service doors provide access for routine maintenance. Air and hydraulic filter life can reach 2,000 hours, and engine oil changes are extended 500-hour intervals.
