Takeuchi’s first battery-powered excavator, its TB20e, will be available at select United Rental locations in North America. The company will ship the first 100 electric excavators to its rental partner.
The 4,255-pound TB20e has a maximum digging depth of 7 feet 10 inches with a maximum reach of 13 feet 4 inches. It carries a 1.35-cubic-yard bucket. When fully charged, it can work continuously from 4 to 8 hours, depending on application, according to Takeuchi.
Fleet managers take slow road to electric
The all-electric TB20e performs similarly to its diesel-powered sibling Takeuchi TB216 compact excavator.
“The product and market development for the TB20e took place in North America, so it made sense to debut the machine here as well,” said Clay Eubanks, director of global sales for Takeuchi, in a prepared statement. “We’ve partnered with United Rentals to introduce our first 100 units because of our long-standing relationship and our work together on current and future product needs. We’re excited to see how their customers react to this new environmentally friendly excavator with all the power and performance they’ve come to expect from Takeuchi.”
