ANSI Standards Pushed to June 1
An article in Lift & Access reported that the ANSI A92 Main Committee voted to push back the effective date for the new suite of MEWP standards to June 1, according to DeAnna Martin, executive director and ANSI liaison of the Scaffold & Access Industry Association.
This is the second time the effective date has been delayed since the A92 suite, which include the A92.20 design, A92.22 safe use, and A92.24 training requirements. These requirements were submitted to ANSI for publication at the end of 2018, though ongoing appeals have contributed to the delays.
This delay comes after Genie, JLG, AEM, Skanska, and other industry stakeholders submitted a petition on Feb. 14 calling for the SAIA, which serves as the secretariat for the A92 standards, to end the appeals process and publish the standards on March 1.
According to Lift & Access, Martin said the hearings for the two most recent appeals still need to be held. The appeals panels will then have 30 days to decide on an outcome.
