Tower crane falls on transit track, 1 dead [VIDEO]

A train hit a section of lattice boom

A portion of a tower crane fell onto an elevated transit track in Taichung, Taiwan, killing one passenger and injuring 10 others, when a train hit a section of the lattice boom piece, according to local news reports.

The tower crane was in the process of being dismantled one the top floor of a nearby job site when a cable broke. The job site was shut down along with nine other sites operated by the contractor, Highwealth Construction.

The Ministry of Labor and the Taichung City government imposed fines of about $9,774 and $26,290, respectively, within days of the accident, although further fines may be forthcoming pending an investigation of the incident.
